Auburn, Alabama - The Ohio State women's swimming and diving team wrapped up day two at the NCAA championships Friday with All-American accolades awarded to senior diver Bianca Alvarez and members of the 200 medley relay - Kelsey Moran, Angela Severn, Shannon Draves and Megan Detro. The Buckeyes are currently in 19th-place with 30 total points at the championships held at James E. Martin Aquatics Center on the campus of Auburn University.
Alvarez received her second honor of the championships with a runner-up finish on the 3-meter springboard. The Big Ten champion tallied a score of 386.30 in the event's final to earn her eighth career All-America recognition. The finish alone added 17 points to Ohio State's team total, increasing Alvarez's contributions to 16 points for the meet.
The 200 medley relay team was also recognized, receiving honorable mention All-America honors by finishing 15th in a time of 1:38.53. The relay, which is comprised entirely of members of the junior class, has been a pivotal part of the Buckeye attack throughout season, setting a school record with a runner-up finish at the Big Ten championships. Four points were added to the Ohio State total as a result of the finish.
In the 100 butterfly, Draves recorded a time of 52.86 to place 21st, while pair of sophomores - Alex Norris and Phoebe Cater - placed in 43rd and 58th in the 200 freestyle, respectively. Norris earned a time of 1:47.57, and Cater touched in 1:50.05.
Moran earned a Top 25 finish in the 100 backstroke in 53.12 (22nd-place), with teammate Emily Creran following 35th with a time of 53.64. In the 800 freestyle relay, the team of Detro, Norris, Draves and Michelle Williams placed 18th in 7:15.12.
The Buckeyes will return for a final day of swimming and diving tomorrow at the NCAA championships. Finals are scheduled for 7 p.m. (CT). Live results can be followed at http://results.teamunify.com/nsss/results/NCAA/2012Women/.
