Arena Pro Swim Series: Orlando
Columbus, Ohio-- Former Buckeye standout Aliena Schmidtke won the 100 butterfly tonight at the Arena Pro Swim Series in Orlando with her time of 59.94.
Schmidtke beat out Olympic Gold Medalist Allison Schmidt for the top spot in the event, a fantastic achievement for the former Ohio State swimmer. She was the only swimmer to post a sub-1:00 time in the race as well.
A member of the Scarlet and Gray from 2011-15, Schmidtke is currently training in Columbus for a shot at making the German Olympic team and competing in Rio this summer. She has already qualifed for a spot in her country's Olympic Trials.
The third event of the 2015-16 Arena Pro Swim Series, the Orlando meet began today and will conclude this Saturday, March 5.
