No. 15 Buckeyes Travel to Michigan Friday
Jan. 17, 2013
COLUMBUS, Ohio – After beginning 2013 on a 2-0 start last weekend, the No. 15 Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team travels to face No. 25 Michigan at 5 p.m. Friday in Ann Arbor. The Buckeyes (6-1, 0-0 Big Ten) are returning to action after defeating Wright State and Toledo last weekend in Columbus.
“We are looking forward to racing and competing in a rivalry meet,” head swimming coach Bill Dorenkott said. “This will be a great opportunity for us as we take another step in preparation for the Big Ten Championships.”
After being off for more than a month from competition, Dorenkott said it was important for the team to get back on a daily routine with the recent change to the semester system in the academic calendar.
“I think it’s critical to get kids into a rhythm. We’ve been thrown off our routine since Thanksgiving through winter break. With the start of classes last week, it’s been wonderful to get the team back on schedule and we’ve had a great start to the semester.”
“I think there are two types of seniors,” Dorenkott said. “There are those that count down the days because they are ready to be done and there are those that are really going to miss the sport. I think this group falls into the second category and I’ve enjoyed coaching a class that in my opinion has improved the most since I’ve been coaching swimming.”
COUSINEAU CLAIMS THIRD WEEKLY AWARD
Junior Ohio State diver Cheyenne Cousineau earned the Big Ten Conference’s Diver of the Week Award for the third time in 2012-13, the conference office announced Tuesday. The award also is Cousineau’s third of her career.
Cousineau, a native of Temperance, Mich., claimed three first-place finishes in Ohio State’s dual meet victories over Wright State and Toledo last weekend. She placed first in the one-meter (299.18) and three-meter (339.08) diving events against the Rockets before winning the one-meter with a season-high score of 330.83 against Wright State. Overall, Cousineau has claimed eight event victories this year.
