Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio State swimming relays kicked off the 2017 USA Swimming Winter National Championships with four season bests on the first evening of competition at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on Wednesday night.
Both of Ohio State’s 800 freestyle relays garnered silver. The women’s crew of Kathrin Demler (1:46.28), Kristen Romano (1:45.81), Katie Trace (1:47.61) and Meg Bailey (1:47.61) combined for a time of 7:07.31 to take second; that time is the sixth-fastest in the nation this year. The men’s foursome of Andrew Loy (1:36.26), Paul DeLakis (1:35.48), Brayden Seal (1:35.85) and Nick Hogsed clocked the No. 5 time in the nation in their race by finishing with a time of 6:23.74.
In the 200 medley relay, both the men’s (1:26.03) and women’s (1:38.28) groups placed third. The men’s team consisted of Mark Belanger, Jack Barone, Michael Salazar and Mossimo Chavez, while Marianne Kahmann, Molly Washko, Becca Luft and Freya Rayner represented the women’s squad.
Day two begins tomorrow at 9 a.m. ET with prelims and finals will start at 5 p.m. ET.
