Buckeyes Rally With Win Over Bobcats

Rounding out a busy two days of racing, the Ohio State women's swimming and diving team closed Saturday with a 182-112 win over in-state foe Ohio University. Competing at the Ohio University Aquatic center in Athens, Ohio, the Buckeyes posted wins over the Bobcats in 13 of the 16 events on the day.
Junior Kelly Ann Baird led the way for the Scarlet and Gray, touching first in two individual events. Baird first dropped a time of 1:49.82 for a victory in the 200 freestyle and later continued showcasing her effort with a win in the 200 backstroke in 2:01.95.
The 400 medley relay got the Buckeyes off to a good start, earning 15 points with a one-two Ohio State finish. The team of Reanna Dona, Angela Severn, Phoebe Cater and Aliena Schmidtke took first in 3:50.28, while Kristyn Fulcher, Annie Lazor, Kelsey Moran and Megan Detro placed second with a time of 3:51.42.
Adding to the Buckeye total, seniors Lauren Massey won the 100 backstroke (56.47) and Shannon Draves took the 200 butterfly (2:01.20). Lazor, a freshman this season, continued her impressive start as a Buckeye with a win in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:05.01.
Junior Michelle Williams kept the momentum going, posting the top time in the 50 freestyle with a 23.64 performance. In the 100 freestyle, Detro rallied to a first-place finish in 50.69.
Wrapping up the Ohio State attack was Severn, who took the 200 breaststroke (2:19.06), and senior Emily Creran with a win in the 100 butterfly (57.37). Junior Alex Norris also posted a win in the 200 individual medley (2:06.12), while the 200 freestyle relay of Williams, Detro, Cater and Annie Jongekrijg closed the meet with a victory in 1:33.36.
In diving, Cheyenne Cousineau won the 3-meter event with 329.18 total points.
In an effort to test the team's endurance, Ohio State returned to the pool after taking on the Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville, Tenn. Friday evening; the Buckeyes fell in the meet 191-109. Ohio State will now regroup with a brief break in action before hosting the Ohio State Invitational Nov. 30 - Dec. 2.
