COLUMBUS, Ohio - In its first road meet of the season, the Ohio State women's swimming and diving team fell to No. 8 Tennessee, 191-109, Friday at Allan Joes Intercollegiate Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tenn. Senior Emily Creran led the way for the Buckeyes, posting the team's lone individual victory in the 200 backstroke.
A native of Haddonfield, N.J., Creran won the event in a time of 1:59.63. Fellow senior Kelsey Moran followed in second with a 2:01.97 performance. Both times were the fastest recorded for the Scarlet and Gray in the 200 backstroke this season.
Ohio State opened the meet recording second and third-place finishes, respectively, in the 200 medley relay. The team of Moran, Angela Severn, Shannon Draves and Megan Detro took second in 1:41.46, while Creran, Annie Lazor, Phoebe Cater and Michelle Williams in 1:44.37.
Leading the Buckeyes' distance contingent was junior Kelly Ann Baird. She dropped a time of 4:51.55 in the 500 freestyle and went on to post a time of 9:56.89 in the 1000 freestyle.
In the 100 backstroke, Ohio State once again rallied to earn two of the Top 3 times. A native of Lakewood, Ohio, Moran placed second in 55.36, while Creran rallied once again, this time for third (55.48).
Draves tallied two second-place finishes in the 100 and 200 butterfly events. Cater followed Draves in the 100 butterfly finishing in 56.02 and 54.79, respectively.
In the diving competition, Cheyenne Cousineau took third in the 1-meter and 3-meter events. Cousineau, who has earned Big Ten Diver of the Week honors for two-consecutive weeks, posted scores of 293.55 and 300.23 on the 1-meter and 3-meter dives, respectively.
The 400 freestyle relay of Alex Norris, Detro, Cater and Williams concluded the meet with a second-place finish in a time of 3:25.05.
The Buckeyes return to the pool tomorrow in Athens, Ohio, to take on the Ohio Bobcats at 1:00 p.m. Ohio State will follow with a break in action before hosting the Ohio State Invitational Nov. 30 - Dec. 2.
