Buckeyes 4th After Day One at Big Tens

COLUMBUS, Ohio – After day one of the 2013 Big Ten Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, the Ohio State Buckeyes are in fourth place following competition Wednesday night in Minneapolis, Minn. The championships continue Thursday with five more events at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

Minnesota and Indiana are tied for first with 74 points followed by Penn State (58), Ohio State (56), Michigan (56), Wisconsin (54), Purdue (50), Nebraska (42), Northwestern (36), Iowa (36), Illinois (22) and Michigan State (22).

The Buckeyes placed fourth in the 200 medley relay to begin the evening. The quarter of seniors Kelsey Moran, Angela Severn, Shannon Draves and Megan Detro notched an NCAA “A” time of 1:37.89 for fourth overall. The time was a season best for the Buckeyes.

The 800 freestyle relay team of Phoebe Cater, Alex Norris, Aliena Schmidtke and Megan Detro placed sixth overall with a time of 7:13.33 to conclude the evening. The finish was a season best as well as an NCAA “B” qualifying time.
