Ohio State Stands In Fourth After Opening Night of B1G Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's swimming and diving team is in a tie for fourth place after the opening night of the 2014 Big Ten Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, which are being held in Minneapolis, Minn. at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
The highlight of the night for the Buckeyes was the 800 freestyle relay team of Alex Norris, Aliena Schmidtke, Katy Luchansky and Phoebe Cater, which finished third with a season-best time of 7:05.33, just .11 ahead of fourth-place Penn State. The time is also an automatic NCAA qualifier. Minnesota won the relay in 7:00.04 while Indiana was second (7:03.08).
In the evenings other event, the 200 medley relay, Ohio State finished sixth. The team of Michelle Williams, Ashley Vance, Schmidtke and Annie Jongekrijg touched the wall in 1:38.94, which is also a season-best time.
Competition continues tomorrow at noon EST (11:00 a.m. CST) with the prelims in the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle and 1-meter diving. The finals get underway at 7:30 p.m. EST (6:30 CST).
