No. 23 Ohio State Concludes Winter Invite

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Members of the 23rd-ranked Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team wrapped up competition Sunday at the Ohio State Winter Invitational hosted in McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The Buckeyes suited up against athletes from Ball State, Buffalo, Eastern Michigan, Harvard, Miami (Ohio), Purdue, Toledo and Wright State.

Freestyle specialist Alex Wittman tallied her second distance victory of the meet when she achieved the top spot in the 1650 freestyle at 16:44.68. Wittman proceeded to earn second-place accolades in the 200 freestyle (1:52.34) in the following race.

Her teammate Amanda Petro took the runner-up spot in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:02.24. Zara Bailey finished first in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:20.03 touch.

The 200 butterfly was commanded by freshman Kaitlyn Cerne, who secured a first-place finish in 2:00.72. Bailey returned to the pool for another strong, top-time showing in the 200 individual medley (2:03.91).

The Buckeyes will return to action Wednesday evening as hosts of the 2015 Big Ten Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships.
