No. 23 Ohio State Kick Starts Winter Invite
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Members of the 23rd-ranked Ohio State women’s swimming and diving suited up Saturday at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion for the Ohio State Winter Invitational. The Buckeyes competed against athletes from Ball State, Buffalo, Eastern Michigan, Harvard, Miami (Ohio), Purdue, Toledo and Wright State.
Freshman Alex Wittman swam to a first-place finish in the 500 freestyle with a NCAA B-cut time of 4:52.06 IN prelims, followed by an outright victory in finals at 4:53.53. Her classmate Kaitlyn Cerne followed in successful fashion with a top showing in the 100 butterfly (55.67).
Before a brief break in finals competition, another rookie, Molly Washko, posted a winning time of 1:03.19 in the 100 breaststroke. Zara Bailey clocked in a finals time of 4:21.06 in the 400 individual medley to earn first-place points for the Buckeyes.
The Buckeyes will return to action Sunday. Prelims are scheduled for an 11 a.m. start time, while finals will continue at 4 p.m.
