Columbus, Ohio— Members of the No. 25-ranked Ohio State women’s swimming team suited up on day one of the Winter Invitational, which welcomed representatives from eight other schools.
Highlighting the performances was freshman Mikayla Murphy, whose time of 54.73 in the 100 backstroke was over three seconds faster than her previous collegiate best and also fell under the NCAA provisional time cut. Murphy also posted the best 500 freestyle time in prelims, outpacing everyone else by over six seconds (4:53.40).
Also competing for Ohio State was Stephanie Samudro, who posted a time of 1:04.57 in the 100 breaststroke, a personal best by more than a second.
Other schools that were represented included Ball State, Cleveland State, Eastern Michigan, Kentucky, Miami (OH), Ohio, Purdue, and Wright State.
Competition will pick up again tomorrow, Sunday, with prelims beginning at 11 am and finals starting at 4 pm.
