No. 21 Ohio State Leads at Northwestern Invite

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 21 Ohio State women’s swimming team had a strong showing during the first of three sessions Friday night at the Northwestern Invitational in Evanston, Ill. Highlighting the team’s night was the 400 medley relay team comprised of seniors Kelsey Moran, Angela Severn, Shannon Draves and Megan Detro who posted a pool-record time of 3:42.30 for first place at Norris Aquatic Center. “It was a really good first session for the meet and I was pleased with the energy with the girls,” head swimming coach Bill Dorenkott said. “We raced tough as a team tonight.” The Buckeyes began the evening with the 200 freestyle relay event as Michelle Williams, Detro, Ashley Vance and Phoebe Cater touched the wall second with a time of 1:33.92. Junior Alex Norris, who was named Ohio State Co-Athlete of the Week Tuesday, then cruised her way to first place in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:49.74. Kelly Ann Baird was third overall with a time of 4:55.65. In the 50 freestyle, Detro touched in third with a time of 23.38. A pair of seniors went second and third, respectively, in the 200 individual medley. Severn was second with a time of 2:03.72, while Creran followed in a time of 2:04.60.
