Buckeyes Dominate, 148.5-93.5, in Dual with Spartans
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team defeated Michigan State by a margin of 148.5-93.5 Friday evening in East Lansing, Mich. The Buckeyes will look to continue the momentum tomorrow, as the squad next travels to Ann Arbor to face-off against rival Michigan.
Kaitlyn Ferrara started the Buckeyes off on a winning note, claiming the 1000 freestyle in a time of 10:15.15. Sophomore standout Lindsey Clary followed it up with a first-place touch in the 200 freestyle (1:52.17), while her Buckeye teammates Macie McNichols and Paige Kelly earned second and third, respectively.
Ohio State posted the top-2 times in the 50 freestyle, with freshman Cheyenne Meek leading the way in first (24.32). Senior Aliena Schmidtke picked up the runner-up spot with a mark of 24.46. The 200 individual medley also went in favor of the Buckeyes. Touching first was senior Lauren Davis, who earned a time of 2:06.76 in the event.
Rookie Zhesi Li solidified a win in her signature 100 butterfly with a time of 55.50. In the 500 freestyle, Gillig touched first in 5:01.26. Registering Ohio State’s seventh win of the evening was sophomore Taylor Vargo, who recorded a time of 1:04.04 in the 100 breaststroke.
The Buckeyes concluded the meet with a first-place touch in the 200 freestyle relay. The contingent of Katy Luchansky, Annie Jongekrijg, McNichols and Meet recorded the win with a mark of 1:33.36.
Senior diver Taylor Ford placed first in the 1-meter event with a score of 295.94. Buckeye diving was strong in the event, as Brittany Menninger earned second with a 281.47.
