COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State softball team will host the 12th Annual Ohio Collegiate Charity Classic Sept. 29-30 at Fred Beekman Park on the Ohio State campus, an event that has grown into one of the biggest fundraisers for Breast Cancer Awareness in Central Ohio, raising more than $161,000 in the past 11 years.
A total of 14 teams will compete in the event, which benefits the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research at the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute. The teams participating in the event this year include: Ohio State, Wright State, Ohio, Ohio Dominican, Akron, Dayton, Ashland, Denison, Toledo, Capital, Mount Union, Rio Grande, Ursuline and Kenyon. Fred Beekman Park is an eight-field complex located west of State Route 315 at Lane Avenue.
The Scarlet and Gray also will get to play at their home facility, Buckeye Field, in two separate dates following the Charity Classic. Ohio State will face Ohio Dominican in an exhibition at 5 p.m. Oct. 5 followed by two scrimmages vs. Kent State at noon and 2 p.m. Oct. 7. As always, admission is free at Buckeye Field.
