COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sophomore outfielder Taylor Watkins has been named a Second Team NFCA All-Midwest selection, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced Thursday. Watkins, a native of Bonney Lake, Wash., earns her first NFCA honor of her Buckeye career.
The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to one of three 2013 NFCA Division I All-American teams.
Watkins, who has started in all 107 games the last two seasons for the Scarlet and Gray, was a key member in the Buckeye lineup, leading the squad in 2013 in runs scored (45), RBI (38), total bases (95) and stolen bases (17). She was second on the team in batting (.337), home runs (7), slugging (.534), walks (32) and on base percentage (.440). In each of her first two years at Ohio State, Watkins has posted at least 60 hits, 30 runs scored and 20 RBI and has compiled a career average of .344 with 82 runs scored, 18 doubles, eight home runs and 61 RBI.
The 2013 NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced at 5 p.m. ET May 29 on NFCA.org.
