Recap |  Box Score

Lori Walker, Ohio State head coach
On the win
"Today we are happy to have survived such a tough and physical contest. Detroit is a very good team and gave us all we could handle. We did not perform as well today as we have in recent games, but I am proud of how our girls handled themselves in a game where they struggled at first."

On playing in the "Sweet-16"
"To us it's not about what round we are in, it's about winning the games we are playing. However, we are excited to be able to continue playing. The only thing different about this round than the others is that we will only play one game this weekend instead of the possibility if playing two. Hopefully, we will be playing Sunday so we can have a full week of rest. And hopefully we will play the next game in Jesse Owens (Memorial Stadium)."

On Ohio State's offensive strategy
"Basically we wanted to keep pressure on Detroit all game so we decided to move Keiana (Mitchell) up closer to the front to give us some added strength and depth. This gave us another strong leg to help keep pressure on. We knew if we kept pressure on them we eventually would get a goal through."

Keiana Mitchell, Ohio State freshman defender
On her goal
"Coach (Walker) moved me up front during the game, so I had good field position throughout the game. When I scored, I saw the ball move close to me and I told myself to just keep working hard and be patient. Then the ball came to me and I kicked it to the back of the net."

Kathy Fulk, Ohio State senior forward
On her goal
"Lisa (Grubb) played a good ball to me and I gave it a pretty decent shot to get it past the goalkeeper. The main thing that helped me score was being able to keep my composure and not get too excited."

Mike Lupenec, Detroit Head Coach
On advancing to the second round
"I am really proud of what we accomplished this season, coming from the Horizon League to this far. We came in with attitude like we have had all along, and that's that we could win. It was a great experience. It's something to build on and come back next year and take step further."

On competing with Ohio State
"I think we frustrated them early. There were a lot of offsides and we were able to limit their scoring chances. When you are playing a team like Ohio State, their players coming off the bench are just as good as the starters, so I think they wore us down a little and we ran out of gas at the end. But I couldn't ask for anything more from my girls. It's sad to see it end, but some of them have to get back to class. Congratulations to Ohio State - they are a very talented team and we came in here and competed with the best team in the Big Ten."

Senior goalkeeper Alisson Dube
On Detroit's tournament run
"We had nothing to lose and we left our heart and soul on the field. We have no regrets. We went out there with our 12 or 13 girls every game and gave it everything we had."
