Women's Soccer Player Named To Big Ten All-Tournament Team

COLUMBUS, Ohio- Jen Miller (Jr., Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) was named to the 2001 Big Ten All-Tournament Team, the conference announced today. The junior defender helped the Ohio State women's soccer team to its first win in the conference touranment since 1998 when the Buckeyes defeated Purdue, 2-1, in overtime Nov. 8. Miller also is the first OSU women's soccer player named to the all-tournament team in program history.
Joining Miller on the list of conference honors were Lisa Grubb (Fr., Portage, Mich./Portage Central), the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and Lori Walker, the Big Ten Coach of the Year. Lindsay Eckles (Jr., Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson), Grubb and Miller also were selected to the All-Big Ten Second Team.
The Buckeyes' season came to an abrupt end Monday when the field of 64 for the 2001 NCAA Championship was announced. OSU, after posting a 10-9-1 overall record and finishing fourth in the conference with a 5-4-1 record, did not earn an at larg berth into the national tournament. OSU's final match this year was a 2-0 decision to Penn State in the semifinals of the Big Ten tournament, Nov. 9. PSU won the title, 2-1, Sunday over Illinois.
Eight of the Buckeyes' opponents during the 2001 season made the tournament, led by No. 1 seed North Carolina. Joining the Tar Heels are No. 8 seed Connecticut, Penn State, Boston College, Evansville, Illinois, Michigan and Kentucky. OSU was a combined 4-5 against those opponents.
