UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Freshman forward Courtney Nein (Middletown, Ohio) recorded her second game-winning goal of the Big Ten Womens Soccer Tournament, leading Ohio State to a 3-2 victory over Indiana at Penn States Jeffrey Field Saturday.
%^$ The Buckeyes (13-7-1) have reached the championship match for the first time in the history of the program and will play tournament host Penn State (18-3-1) at Noon in Sundays final.%^$ %^$ Three minutes into the match, senior midfielder Becky Borchers (Dayton, Ohio) put the Buckeyes on the board first. Indiana rebounded with a tally of its own 26 seconds later as junior Tracy Grose evened the score at one-all. Nein converted a deflected corner kick from junior Katy Traeger (Littleton, Colo.) in the 4th minute, recording the games third goal in a span of 1:34.%^$ %^$ In the second half, Nein headed in the game-winner from Elisa Hamiltons (Fr., Westerville, Ohio) flip throw-in in the 56th minute. Indianas Kris Fosdick pulled the Hoosiers within one four minutes later, but the Buckeyes held on for the victory.%^$ %^$ Sophomore goalkeeper Amber Barnes (Fairfield, Ohio) had four saves on the day while IUs Ashley Davis recorded three.
%^$ Nein did not net a goal during the regular season, but has put home three in the last two games.%^$ %^$ "Courtney has just come alive in this tournament," said OSU head coach Lori Walker. "(The NCAA bid) is a little more incentive for us. We didnt make as many defensive mistakes today against Indiana compared to the first meeting earlier in the season."
