COLUMBUS, Ohio - Senior midfielder Becky Borchers (Dayton, Ohio) netted two goals and assisted on another, lifting Ohio State to a 5-1 victory over Arkansas on Senior Day at the OSU Sports Field Saturday. The Buckeyes finish the regular season 11-7-1 and the Razorbacks fall to 5-11 for the season.
Melanie Vierling (Fr., Cincinnati, Ohio) put the Bucks on the board in the 13th minute taking a feed from Borchers into the net. They play was set up by an Elisa Hamilton (Fr., Westerville, Ohio) throw-in. Hamilton also started the play that led to OSU's second goal, flinging the ball to Courtney Nein (Fr., Middletown, Ohio) who tapped the ball to Borchers for the score.
Emily Thorpe (Fr., Cincinnati, Ohio) shot the ball from a peculiar angle in the 32nd minute, bending it just inside the right post to put OSU up 3-0. Borchers scored again just before the half for her second multiple-goal performance of the season.
Nikki Armento scored four minutes into the second half for the Razorbacks with a perfectly struck ball. In the middle of the field about 15 yards out, Armento chipped a ball high and to the right post that lodged in the upper corner of the net.
Katy Traeger (Jr., Littleton, Colo.) added a fifth goal in the 83rd minute, giving OSU a four-goal victory.
