Women's Soccer Player Honored By Conference
Nov. 2, 1999
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Senior Katy Traeger (Littleton, Colo.), a midfielder for Ohio State's women's soccer team, was named Big Ten Player of the Week for Nov. 2.
Traeger received the honor for her outstanding performance in the Buckeyes' final home match against West Virginia, on Oct. 29 at the Jesse Owens Memorial Complex.
"I knew it was one of my last games here and fortunately I was able to put some goals in," Traeger said after her hat trick performance. "I was in the zone today, and it just worked for me."
Traeger put the Buckeyes on the board in the third minute, firing a shot into the top right corner of the net. With an assist from Emily Thorpe (So., Sycamore, Ohio), Traeger outmaneuvered two Mountaineer defenders and shot the ball into the lower left corner. In the 26th minute, Traeger scored her third goal of the game as the ball eased by the Mountaineer goalkeeper, putting the Buckeyes ahead 3-0 at half time. Traeger is tied for second place in team scoring with 16 points (6 goals, 4 assists) and has amassed 31 shots for the season.
