COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 16/20 Ohio State women's soccer team (12-3-3, 4-3-3) concluded the 2003 regular season with a 3-2 win over the Bowling Green Falcons (7-11-2, 5-5-2) in double overtime Friday afternoon in Bowling Green, Ohio. With the win Ohio State improved to 8-0 in non-conference matches and finished the regular season with the best regular-season record in school history at 12-3-3.

The match was scoreless for more than 75 minutes before Ohio State struck first at the 75:54 mark when Colleen Hoban (Jr., Strongsville, Ohio) fed Paige Harrison (Jr., Centerville, Ohio) a pass that Harrison headed past Falcon goalie Ali Shinger. The goal was Harrison's first of the year.

Bowling Green would quickly retaliate and tie the game at 1-1 less than a minute later when Samantha Meister fired a pass from teammate Julie Trundle past OSU goalkeeper Emily Haynam (Jr., Westerville, Ohio) at the 76:26 mark. Bowling Green would take a 2-1 lead in the 80th minute of play when Leah Eggleton took a pass from Samantha Meister and Katie Piening that slipped past Haynam. Haynam finished the game with four saves.

Ohio State tied the game at 2-2 with just 25 seconds remaining in the game when Hoban scored her first of two goals, burying a shot from teammate Liz Mumley (Jr., Woodbridge, Va.) past Shingler. Hoban would tally the game-winner in third minute of the second overtime when she handled a pass from Erica Nollen (Jr., West Chester, Ohio), which she sent over the head of Shingler. The goals were Hoban's eighth and ninth of season and her first two-goal game of the year. "Bowling Green is a great in state rival and they always show up and give us a great game," Head Coach Lori Walker said. Today we gave a good deal of experience to our reserves. We were also able to rest some f our injured players. This is a testament to the depth of our team, that we can win while still being shorthanded."

Ohio State enters postseason play on Thursday in opening round of the Big Ten tournament in Madison, Wis. The fifth-seeded Buckeyes will face the fourth-seeded Michigan Wolverines at 4:30 p.m. EST.
