Women's Soccer Nails a 3-1 Win Over West Virginia
Oct. 29, 1999
The Ohio State women's soccer team finished its regular season with a 3-1 over West Virginia, Friday afternoon at the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
With an assist from Emily Thorpe (So., Sycamore, Ohio), Katy Traeger (Sr., Littleton, Colo.) put the Buckeyes on the board in the third minute as she fired a shot into the top right corner of the net.
The Thorpe/Traeger duo would connect in the 22nd minute for another Buckeye goal. Traeger outmaneuvered two Mountaineer defenders and shot the ball into the lower left corner.
Three minutes later, Traeger scored her third goal of the game as the ball eased by Mountaineer goalkeeper Melissa Haire, putting the Buckeyes ahead 3-0 at halftime.
"I was pleased with our attack on the field," head coach Lori Walker said. "We've added some new personalities to the line up and they are more confident. It's good to come out of Big Ten play with two wins."
West Virginia's Katie Barnes scored the Mountaineer's only goal in the 61st minute, with assists from Rachel Kruze and Julie Smith.
Ohio State is 12-5-2 overall and 5-4-1 in the Big Ten. The Buckeyes travel to Bloomington, Ind. to compete against Minnesota in the first round of the Big Ten Women's Soccer Championship, Nov. 5 at 2 p.m.
