COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Ohio State women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to six-consecutive matches with a 4-3 defeat of visiting Evansville at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium Sunday. The Buckeyes, who improved to 9-7-1 overall (5-4-1 Big Ten), got goals from four different players on Senior Day to hand UE its second loss in a row. The Purple Aces slipped to 11-6-0 overall (4-1-0 Missouri Valley Conference).

"We'll take the two wins at home," Lori Walker, OSU head coach, said. "It's just a fantastic effort. We are 5-0-1 in the last six matches and I think that is a credit to the whole team sticking together and staying focused on what our goals are."

The action started early. The Purple Aces got on the board first with a goal by Michele Magnuson at 3:40. Magnuson dribbled the ball to the corner of the 18-yard box, turned and fired the ball over the head of OSU goalkeeper Jen Heaney (Fr., Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) for the early 1-0 lead.

OSU fought back though and tied the match on Lindsay Eckles' (Jr., Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) seventh goal of the year. Lisa Grubb (Fr., Portage, Mich./Portage Central) carried the ball through the defense and passed to Eckles on the left wing. Eckles gathered the pass eight-yards out and fired a shot past UE goalkeeper Katie Howard to end the scoring for the first stanza. For the match, Howard and Heaney recorded three saves.

In the second half, the Buckeyes came out strong and pressured the Purple Aces into turnovers. One forced miscue by Melanie Vierling (Sr., Cincinnati, Ohio/Country Day) resulted in a goal for OSU. Vierling stepped in front of a pass near the box and fired a low shot past a diving Howard for the 2-1 lead. The Buckeyes did not hold the lead long. Jessica Schwartz scored on another outside blast to the top corner of the netting less than one minute later to knot the match at two.

The Purple Aces garnered the momentum, and then the lead, at the 55:38 mark in the second. Kristin Prom was among several OSU and UE players in the Buckeyes' defensive zone when a shot from Magnuson rattled around. Prom and Heaney both leaped for the ball and collided. Before OSU could clear the box, Prom got to the ball, pushed to her left and fired the ball past Heaney for UE's second lead of the match.

The Buckeyes stormed back 15 minutes later to tie the match again. A foul on UE near midfield allowed Jen Miller (Jr., Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) to tee the ball up and send it into the box. Kiley Enmark (Jr., Sterling Heights, Mich./Henry Ford II) timed the pass and got her head on it, redirecting the ball into the net. OSU was not done. Grubb recorded the gamewinner at 78:41 after receiving a pass from Emily Thorpe (Sr., Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) inside the box. Grubb faked to one side and then sent the ball to the top of the net for the 4-3 lead.

Prior to the match, Walker and the Buckeyes honored Vierling, Courtney Nein (Sr., Middletown, Ohio/Middletown), Brynn Catino (Sr., Westerville, Ohio/Westerville South), Brooke Thomas (Sr., Westerville, Ohio/Westerville North) and Thorpe for their contributions to the OSU program.

The Buckeyes return to action at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, when the No. 1 North Carolina Tar Heels invade Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
