Columbus, Ohio - The No.14/17-ranked Ohio State women's soccer team (12-3-3, 6-1-3 Big Ten) recorded its ninth shutout of the season with a 2-0 blanking of Kent State (11-3-5, 7-2-3 Mid-American) Wednesday night at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Freshman Lara Dickenmann scored her fourth game-winning goal of the season as Ohio State moved to 8-0-1 at home in 2004.

Lori Walker, Ohio State head coach, was pleased with her team's performance.

"Tonight we were challenged by Kent State and we responded well," Walker, who recorded her 98th career victory Wednesday night, said. "They disrupted our attack and played hard throughout. Overall, it was nice to be able to play the amount of people we did because it gives us more options for the Big Ten tournament."

The match remained scoreless through the first 66 minutes before Ohio State capitalized on a free kick from near midfield. The play started with a long feed into the Kent zone from Melissa Miller (So., Cincinnati, Ohio), which found Danielle Dietrich (Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio) in the center of the 18-yard box. From there, Dietrich tipped a header that was deflected by Golden Flash keeper Alicia Fernandez, where Dickenmann gathered the carom and sent a shot from the right side past Fernandez for her seventh goal of the season. The double-assist served as Dietrich's sixth and Miller's third of the year as the Buckeyes claimed the 1-0 lead in the 67th minute.

Less than 10 minutes later, Dickenmann almost sealed the win as she nearly drove coast-to-coast past the Kent State defense, but her shot from the left side went wide of Fernandez and the right post in the 77th minute. The Buckeyes succeeded in closing out the win in the 87th minute as Kathy Fulk (Sr., Dublin, Ohio) buried her first goal of the season from eight yards out after taking a pass from Lisa Grubb (R-Jr., Portage, Mich.). The assist was Grubb's sixth this season.

For the match, Ohio State outshot Kent State, the No. 1 seed in the MAC tournament next week, by a 21-3 margin, including a 13-0 advantage in the second half. The Buckeyes also blanked the Golden Flashes in the corner kicks department by a 10-0 ledger. In its last three matches - vs. No. Penn State, Loyola-Chicago and Kent State - the Buckeyes own an astounding 30-0 lead in corner kicks.

Senior goalkeeper Emily Haynam (Sr., Westerville, Ohio) played the full 90 minutes in net and recorded her ninth win of the season. The OSU backline of Erica Nollen (Sr. West Chester, Ohio), M. Miller, Emily Francis (So., Alliance, Ohio), Paige Harrison (Sr., Centerville, Ohio) and Keiana Mitchell (Fr., Cincinnati, Ohio) helped hold Kent State without a shot in the second half.

The Buckeyes complete their regular season at home Saturday vs. Toledo at 7:30 p.m. Next week, Ohio State serves as host of the 2004 Big Ten Tournament Nov. 4-7 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
