Go Buckeyes!

October 25, 1998

Just 10 minutes into the match, Becky Borchers (Sr., Dayton, Ohio) collided with Detroit keeper Erica Rust, squirting the ball into the air. Vierling collected the lose ball and tapped it in for her first goal of the match.

Borchers was fouled just outside the box in the 20th minute and Katy Traeger (Jr., Littleton, Colo.) netted OSU's second goal off the restart. Vierling struck again in the 70th minute with some fancy footwork on the end line and Jamie Minteer (Fr., Springfield, Ohio) netted her first goal as a Buckeye five minutes later, finishing a Mia Katzel (So., Ukiah, Calif.) cross.

Sophomore goalkeeper Amber Barnes (Fairfield, Ohio) recorded her fifth consecutive shutout, an OSU record. Barnes has posted eight shutouts for the season, which eclipses Nicole Morris's mark of seven in 1996. She is second for career shutouts with 11.5. Ohio State plays travels to Dayton, Ohio Wednesday for a 3 p.m. match at Wright State.
