COLUMBUS, Ohio - Two goals in a two minute span in the second half by Lisa Collison and Lisa Grubb gave the Ohio State women's soccer team a 2-0 win over Michigan State Friday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The Big Ten Conference victory improves the Buckeyes to 9-6-1 overall and 4-4-0 in the league, while the Spartans drop to 6-9-1 overall and 2-6-0 in the conference.

"I liked the discipline we had tonight," Lori Walker, Ohio State head coach, said. "We played the full 90 minutes and I didn't know if we could keep our pace after the first half, but I think we came out stronger in the second half. We take the season one game and one goal at a time. Our record is indicative of how we are playing. I am happy with the performance tonight, especially with the backs. They really attacked tonight."

Ohio State jumped to a 1-0 lead in the 56th minute after Lara Dickenmann (Jr., Kriens, Switzerland/DFC Sursee) fed Collison (So., Niagara Falls, Ontario/Burlington Flames) the ball which the midfielder fired past MSU goalkeeper Nicole Galas from the 6-yard box. The goal was Collison's ninth of the season, bringing her point total to 19 (1 assist).

The Scarlet and Gray upped its lead to 2-0 and the eventual final when Grubb tallied her third goal of the season in the 58th minute. Grubb (Sr., Portage, Mich./Michigan Hawks) placed the ball in the left hand corner of the net from the 6-yard box off a pass from Dickenmann. With two assists on the night, Dickenmann scored her team-leading 20th point of the season off seven goals and six assists. OSU goalkeeper Lauren Robertson (Fr., Mission Viejo, Calif./So Cal Blues) and the Buckeye defense notched their sixth shutout of the year. Robertson made five saves, while Galas had 12 stops. Ohio State doubled up Michigan State, 22-11, in shots, including 14 on goal for the Buckeyes and five on goal for the Spartans. OSU held the corner kicks advantage, 3-1.

Ohio State returns to action at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at 1 p.m. Sunday when it hosts Michigan.
