Lara Dickenmann Named Big Ten Women's Soccer Co-Offensive Player of the Week
Oct. 18, 2004
Columbus, Ohio - Lara Dickenmann, a freshman midfielder on the No. 16-ranked Ohio State women's soccer team (10-2-3, 6-0-3 Big Ten), became the second Buckeye in the last two weeks to share league offensive player of the week accolades after tallying a goal and three assists in Ohio State's pair of wins at Minnesota and Iowa last weekend. OSU teammate Lisa Grubb shared the award Oct. 11.
Dickenmann, a native of Kreins, Switzerland, continued her outstanding freshman season by helping the Buckeyes extend their current win streak to four matches and up their unbeaten stretch to 13 contests. Ohio State has not last a match since dropping a 2-1 contest in overtime at No. 4 Washington.
Friday at Minnesota, Dickenmann served as an offensive catalyst, assisting on one of Danielle Dietrich's three goals.
Sunday, Dickenmann teamed with Grubb to give the Buckeyes a 2-0 edge less than nine minutes into the win over Iowa. Dickenmann assisted on the first score, advancing down the left side of the Iowa zone and firing a crossing feed that found a streaking Grubb in the fifth minute. Moments later in the eighth minute, Dickenmann gather a rebounded Grubb shot and buried her sixth goal of the season. Dickenmann played a hand on OSU's third score as well, assisting fellow freshman Carla Arbulu on her first goal as a Buckeye.
For the season, Dickenmann has 20 points on six goals and a team-leading eight assists. Her 20 points rank third on the team behind the 21 posted by both Dietrich and Grubb and currently sits in a tie for ninth all-time in a single season. Her eight assists now stand in a tie for first all-time for a single season with Lisa Suttmiller's (1994-1997) eight in 1996.
Tiffany Weimer of Penn State won the other half of the offensive award. Weimer's teammate, PSU goalkeeper Erin McLeod was the defensive honoree this week. The No. 3-ranked Nittany Lions (13-1-1, 9-0 Big Ten) join the Buckeyes as the only two unbeaten squads in the conference. The two teams face one another at 7 p.m. Friday in State College, Pa.
