%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio--The Big Ten Conference today announced it has named Lindsay Eckles (Jr., Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) the offensive player of the week for women's soccer. After missing five-consecutive matches because of an injury, Eckles recorded three goals as the Buckeyes (6-7-0 overall, 3-4-0 in the Big Ten) defeated Illinois, 3-1, Friday and Iowa, 3-1, Sunday.%^$
%^$"Lindsay provided the instant offense we've been searching for," Lori Walker, OSU head coach, said. "She used her time wisely when she was injured and really benefitted from being on the sidelines watching us play and watching films. It was evident in her first few touches that she was very confident and anxious to make a difference and she did."%^$
%^$In her first match back, Eckles scored two goals including the equalizer less than two minutes into the second half and the gamewinner seven minutes later. Her first goal was a breakaway set up by a pass from Lisa Grubb (Fr., Portage, Mich./Portage Central). The second, which was assisted by Emily Thorpe (Sr., Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore), saw Eckles get into the box, go one on one with the goalkeeper and put the ball in the net.%^$
%^$Against the Hawkeyes Sunday, Eckles again tallied the gamewinner for her third goal on the weekend. Heather Miller (Fr., Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) fed a pass to Eckles and she found the back of the net to give OSU the 2-1 lead three minutes before the half.%^$
%^$This is the third time this season an OSU women's soccer student-athlete has garnered a conference award. Grubb was named co-player of the week Sept. 3 and Jen Miller (Jr., Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) was a defensive player of the week selection Sept. 10.%^$
%^$The Buckeyes are back in action this weekend with the first two of five-consecutive home matches to close out the regular season. OSU plays host to Northwestern at 7 p.m. Friday and Wisconsin at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
