Columbus, Ohio - The 12th-ranked Ohio State women's soccer team (8-2-2, 2-1-2) suffered its second defeat of the season as it lost at the hands of the Illinois Fighting Illini (9-2-1, 5-0-1) in Champaign, Ill. Friday night.

Illinois charged through the gate in the first half scoring just eight minutes into the match, when Jessica Bayne received a pass from Andrea Ridgeway and Kelly Campbell, which she buried past Ohio State goalkeeper Staci Sinkway (Fr., Mission Viejo, Calif.) for a 1-0 advantage. Illinois increased its lead to 2-0 in the 16th minute of play when Bayne found Tara Hurless on a breakaway, which Hurless fired past Sinkway.

Ohio State mounted its best flurry of the night in the second half. The Buckeyes fired six shots and had two corner kicks in the last 10 minutes of the game. Erica Nollen (Jr., West Chester, Ohio) had a shot late in the second frame that sailed just to the right of Illinois goalkeeper Leisha Alcia; shortly after Nollen's attempt, Nicole Braman's (So., Niwot, Colo.) shot went wide left past Alcia.

The loss for the Buckeyes marks the first defeat since a 1-0 loss to the Indiana Hoosiers Sept. 26 and is just the fourth loss away from Columbus in 11 matches dating back to the 2002 season.

Buckeyes freshman goalie Sinkway started the match and finished with six saves.

The Buckeye return to action at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium as they play host to the Wisconsin Badgers.
