The 12th-ranked Ohio State women's soccer team (6-1-1, 0-1-1) dropped its first contest of the season Friday night in wet, stormy conditions by a 1-0 count at the hands of the Indiana Hoosiers (3-5-0, 1-1-0) in Bloomington, Ind.

The scoring strike for the Hoosiers came in the 82nd minute, as Missy Vierling received a pass from Megan Pipkens and buried a shot past Buckeye keeper Staci Sinkway (Fr., Mission Viejo, Calif.) for the game-winner. The goal is the just the fourth scored on the Buckeye defense all season and was the first scored on Sinkway this season.

The loss breaks Ohio State's seven-match unbeaten streak to begin the 2003 season and serves as just the third loss in OSU's last 10 matches away from Columbus. Junior keeper Emily Haynam (Westerville, Ohio) started the match and recorded three saves, while Sinkway minded the net in the second stanza and suffered her first loss of the season.

The Buckeyes remain in the state of Indiana for a Sunday afternoon match with the Purdue Boilermakers. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. (EDT). The Buckeyes and Boilermakers battled through two overtimes contests in 2003.
