COLUMBUS, Ohio - Lisa Collison, the Ohio State senior forward who was named the Big Ten Conference Offensive Player of the Week Monday for her efforts in two Buckeye wins over the weekend, has picked up Soccer America Team of the Week accolades as well. Each week Soccer America chooses a player of the week and supplements that choice with an 11-person team of the week.
The Niagara Falls, Ontario native actually started on the sidelines for both games. She entered each game with great spirit and effort and ended up scoring five points in the wins over Evansville and Louisville. Collison scored the winning goal in overtime of the team’s 2-1 win over Louisville. She also set up the tying goal in the 82nd minute of the game, sending a cross into the box that freshman Taylor Moront “headed” into the net. In the team’s 3-1 win over Evansville Friday, Collison scored less than two minutes after going into the game to give the Buckeyes some breathing room and a 2-0 lead. The shot was a rocket.
Collison, just the third Buckeye to reach 30 goals for a career, ranks second all-time with 31 goals and trails only Lisa Grubb (35 goals from 2001-06). Collison’s 72 career points rank fourth all-time at Ohio State.
Collison and the Buckeyes host Wright State at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. They travel to Indiana for a 1 p.m. game Sunday that will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
