COLUMBUS, Ohio-- The Ohio State women's soccer team (3-4-0 overall, 0-1-0 in the Big Ten) traveled south to Lexington, Ky., Sunday and fell to the host Wildcats, 2-0, at the UK Soccer Complex. It was the fourth-consecutive loss for the Buckeyes and the third-consecutive via shutout. UK, the No. 15 team in the nation, improves to a program-best 7-0-0 (1-0-0 SEC).
"We had a better run of the play," Lori Walker, OSU head coach, said. "I'm very proud of the way we played and how we got after it. It was a very physical game."
The Wildcats got on the board early when Annie Gage scored 4:02 into the match. UK's Amber Wilson played a free kick to Gage who put the ball into the net. OSU was outshot in the first, 3-2, and committed nine fouls to UK's eight with one foul resulting in a yellow card.
The second half was more physical as OSU and UK were whistled for nine and five fouls, respectively, and three more yellow cards - two on the Buckeyes and one on the Wildcats. Ten minutes into the second stanza, UK's Susie Ledzianowski netted an insurance goal for the home team off a rebound when Gage's shot from a set play hit the crossbar.
OSU was outshot for the match, 9-5. Jen Heaney (Fr., Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) recorded four saves in goal for the Buckeyes in 90 minutes of work and her UK counterpart, Beth Wells, stopped one.
The Buckeyes return to action on the road with Big Ten Conference matches at Indiana (Friday, 6 p.m.) and Purdue (Sunday, 2 p.m.). OSU returns home at 6 p.m. Oct. 5 when it plays host to the Michigan Wolverines.
