Columbus, Ohio - The Ohio State women's soccer team (4-2-1, 0-0-1 Big Ten) had its four-match winning streak snapped Sunday with a 0-0 tie at No. 16 Wisconsin (6-1-1, 0-0-1 Big Ten) in Madison, Wis. Ohio State handed UW its second blemish in seven matches, firing 23 shots to UW's 12 and held a 5-to-2 edge in shots on goal.
"We outshot them and played some brilliant and entertaining soccer," Lori Walker, Ohio State head coach, said. "We controlled play and attacked the Wisconsin zone in a variety of ways. We just could not find the back of the net."
The Buckeyes fired four shots at the UW goal in the extra session, with two coming on corner kicks by senior defender Paige Harrison (Centerville, Ohio). On the first corner kick, Harrison found junior forward Lisa Grubb (Portage, Mich.), who headed the ball high and past the cross bar. Freshman Lara Dickenmann (Kriens, Switzerland) took the second corner and struck a shot wide as the first overtime ended. Senior Liz Mumley (Woodbridge, Va.) accounted for Ohio State's final scoring opportunity, missing a shot in the 114th minute.
Grubb was one of five Buckeyes who recorded at least three shots with five, firing one on goal. Mumley and junior Colleen Hoban (Strongsville, Ohio) each sent two balls on goal. Ohio State has outshot six of its seven opponents in 2004.
Senior Jen Heaney (Cincinnati, Ohio) played the full 120 minutes in goal, notching two saves and her first shutout of the season.
The Buckeyes continue league play at 7:30 p.m. Friday as they play host to Purdue at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
