Women's Soccer Halts Flyers' Streak With 1-0 Victory

COLUMBUS, Ohio-- The Ohio State women's soccer team defeated the Dayton Flyers, 1-0, at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium Friday afternoon in blustery conditions. The Buckeyes improved to 4-3 overall and 0-0 in the Big Ten while the Flyers fell to 3-3 overall and 0-0 in the Atlantic 10.
Lindsay Eckles (So., Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) netted the lone Buckeye goal in the 65th minute after receiving the ball from an OSU throw-in. With the goal, Eckles extended her scoring streak to six games in which she has recorded 19 total points on eight goals and three assists.
Buckeye goalkeeper Amber Barnes (Sr., Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) anchored the OSU defense with her first shutout of the season. Barnes recorded five saves, including a leaping save on a Dayton free kick that she tipped over the net.
The Buckeyes will return to action at 3 p.m. Sunday in East Lansing, Mich. against the Michigan State Spartans (5-0-1 overall, 0-0 Big Ten) in the Big Ten conference opener for both teams.
