COLUMBUS, Ohio - These 12 student-athletes represent the freshmen class on the 2008 Ohio State women’s soccer team. Some have already seen their first collegiate action for the Buckeyes while others are working toward that opportunity. After a recent practice, each of the student-athletes shared a little insight into their world outside of goals, assists and playing the sport they love.  

Katie Baumgardner
Goalkeeper - Sterling, Va.

Katie served as a team captain for Reston FC teams that were Virginia State finalists in 2007 and semifinalists in 2005 and 2006.  She was a two-year soccer letterwinner and two-time team captain for Potomic Falls High School. She also lettered in lacrosse and basketball.

Getting to know Katie:
Favorite color ... orange
Favorite music ... anything! My favorite band is Dave Matthews
Best thing about being a Buckeye ... the traditions and being able to say “O-H” almost anywhere and having someone say “I-O” back
Favorite food ... my mom’s mac and cheese
If I didn’t play soccer, I’d play ... basketball

Pets ... a cat, Teddy; a dog, Btutus; and a guinea pig, Hippo

Colleen Brady
Defender/Midfielder - Dublin Ohio

Colleen played for a state finalist Ohio Premier team in 2007. At Coffman high school, she was a four-year letterwinner who was named second-team all-state and first team all-Ohio Capital Conference as a senior. She also served as team captain her senior year.

Brittney Contacos
Defender - Irwin, Pa.

Brittney played for the Internationals soccer club, which won the 2007 state championship. She led Penn-Trafford high school to the Pennsylvania state championship game and was named MVP her senior year.  She was also named to the Tribune-Review Elite 11 team and was named a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette all-star.

Lauren Cusick
Defender - Hillsborough, N.J.

Lauren played six years of club soccer for the Players Development Academy. Her U-15 team won the Region I championship in 2005 and were ranked as high as No. 2 in the country that year. She started and lettered for Hillsborough high school all four years. She was captain, MVP, and leading scorer her senior year.

Kelsi Landry
Defender - Whitby, Ontario, Canada

Kelsi played four varsity sports at Sinclair Secondary School (soccer, basketball, ice hockey and lacrosse). She was a member and team captain of back-to-back U-16 Ontario Provincial teams that won gold medals at the national games. In 2007, she was named a captain at the National Training Center of Ontario soccer.

Caitlyn Martin
Midfielder/Forward - Dublin, Ohio

Caitlyn competed for the Ohio Premier Soccer club for the past 12 years. She played on Ohio Premier teams that were state champions in 2001 and 2003 and in 2005, the team was a U.S. Club Soccer national semifinalist. She was a four-year soccer and basketball letterwinner for Hilliard-Davidson high school, and served as captain her junior and senior years. She was named team MVP her senior year.

Best thing about being a Buckeye ... wearing Scarlet and Gray, playing in the Jesse, going to football games and the huge fan base

Kendall Maxwell
Goalkeeper - Anderson, S.C.

Kendall played for Carolina Elite Soccer Academy and helped lead them to four South Carolina state club championships (2004-07) and to the quarterfinals of the 2006 and 2007 Region III tournaments. At T.L. Hanna High School, she was a four year starter and letterwinner who was selected as team captain her junior and senior year.

Paige Maxwell
Forward - Medina, Ohio

Paige played club soccer with the Cleveland Internationals. She helped the team garner state championships in 2004 and 2006. She was a member of the U-17 and U-16 Youth National Team pools in 2007 and 2006, respectively. She was a four year starter and senior captain for Medina high school.

Taylor Moront
Forward - Toledo, Ohio

Taylor was a member of the Pacesetter Soccer Club from U-8 through U-14 and has played with the Cleveland Internationals club team since 2004. The 2006 Internationals team was regional champion and national semi-finalist. At St. Ursula Academy, she was a four year starter and letterwinner. She was her high school’s leading goal scorer in 2004 and 2005.

Danielle Scoliere
Defender/Midfielder/Forward - Dublin, Ohio

Danielle played for Ohio Premier teams that were four-time state cup semifinalists and a finalist in 2007. At Dublin Scioto High School, she was a four year starter and letterwinner. She led her high school team in scoring and assists and was named team MVP her senior year.

Elizabeth Sullivan
Defender - Powell, Ohio

Elizabeth played soccer for the Worthington United club team for seven years and was team captain for six years. She was a three year starter and letterwinner at Olentangy Liberty high school. She was a two-time team captain and defensive MVP. She was awarded the Central Ohio Player Sportsmanship Award.

Brooke Taylor
Midfielder - Sylvania, Ohio

Brooke played club soccer with the Cleveland Internationals Soccer Club and helped them to win the 2006 regional championship and earn a spot in the national tournament. At Northview High School, she was a four year starter and letterwinner. She was named the captain and MVP as a senior in 2007.
