Columbus, Ohio - The Ohio State women's soccer team (4-0-0, 0-0) avenged a 1-0 loss to the Cincinnati Bearcats at home in 2002 with a 2-0 triumph at Cincinnati's Meyers Field Friday night to improve to 4-0 on the season. The 4-0 start is Ohio State's first since the 1998 season when the Buckeyes earned wins in each of their first five games.

Ohio State, which reached its highest national ranking this week, climbing to No. 15 in the poll, used second half scores by Heather Miller (Jr./Centerville, Ohio) and Colleen Hoban (So./Strongsville, Ohio) and a solid combined effort by goal keepers Emily Haynam (Jr./Westerville, Ohio) and Staci Sinkway (Fr./Mission Viejo, Calif.) to record their third shutout victory in as many games.

Following a scoreless first half, the Buckeyes jumped ahead 1-0 on an unassisted tally by Miller at the 46:59 mark, as the junior dribbled past three defenders and fired a strike past UC keeper Sherry Slye for the match-winner. The goal is Miller's second of the season.

Hoban added an insurance goal less than 10 minutes later, as the sophomore forward received a feed from junior Kathy Fulk (Dublin, Ohio) and bested Slye at the net for her third goal of 2003.

Ohio State freshman keeper Sinkway notched her first career victory as she posted five second half saves in relief of starter Haynam. The duo combined for the upset victory of No. 6 Virginia Sept. 5 at Ohio State and combined for Ohio State's third shutout in four contests this season. Collectively, the Buckeye defense - led by Cincinnati natives Erica Nollen (West Chester, Ohio) and Melissa Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio) - has contributed to a stellar 0.25 goals per game average so far this season.

Friday night's win over the Bearcats serves as Ohio State's first since the 1996 season, as the Buckeyes outshot Cincinnati 13-8, while both teams recorded seven strikes on goal.

Ohio State's next contest is slated for 2 p.m. Sunday, as the Buckeyes play host to Coastal Carolina at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The meeting is the first between the Buckeyes and the Chanticleers.
