Women's Soccer Drops First Match Of Season, 3-1, to Boston College

%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio-- The Ohio State women's soccer team (3-1-0 overall, 0-0-0 Big Ten) lost its first match of the season, 3-1, to Boston College (1-2-0, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) in the second round of the UConn/Diadora Classic at Storrs, Conn., Sunday. Lindsay Eckles (Jr., Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) scored for the Buckeyes but it was not enough as the Eagles scored three unanswered goals for their first win of the season.%^$


Eckles opened the scoring with a tally at 16:58. Lisa Grubb (Fr., Portage, Mich./Portage Central), the co-player of the week in the Big Ten last week, played the ball over the defense allowing Eckles to collect the pass and slide a shot under BC's goalkeeper for the lead.%^$


Five minutes prior to halftime, BC's Maureen Jenkins knotted the match at one with an unassisted goal. Jenkins came in on OSU goalkeeper Jen Heaney (Fr., Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) with the ball ahead of her. Heaney failed to clear the ball and Jenkins fired into the empty net for the tie going into intermission.%^$


In the second half, BC's Meghan Moore and Sarah Rahko added one goal apiece with Moore's score giving BC the win. Rahko assisted on the Moore goal at 57:31 before scoring at 67:00.%^$


BC outshot the Buckeyes, 26-17, and attempted more corner kicks, 7-4, in the match. Heaney stopped a career-high seven shots while the Eagles' Meredith Crotty recorded five saves.%^$


OSU returns to action at 7 p.m. Friday with an intrastate battle against Bowling Green at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.%^$
