Women's Soccer Upsets No. 12 Missouri, 3-2, In Overtime

COLUMBUS, Ohio--The Ohio State women's soccer team defeated No.12 Missouri, 3-2, in overtime Friday to win the opening game of the University of Michigan/NIKE Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich. With the victory, Ohio State improved its record to 3-2 overall and 0-0 in the Big Ten as Missouri slipped to 3-2 overall and 0-0 in the Big Twelve.
Leading the way for the Buckeyes was team scoring leader Lindsay Eckles (So., Hilliard, Ohio /Hilliard Davidson). Eckles scored all three goals, pulling the Buckeyes out of a 2-0 hole.
Missouri's Nikki Thole started the Tiger scoring drive with her goal off a penalty kick at 17:52 in the first half. Thole assisted on teammate Adriene Davis' goal at the 47:05 mark as Missouri took a 2-0 halftime lead.
Eckles got the Buckeyes on the board at 77:15 in the second half by pushing the ball past goalkeeper Graham Watson on an assist by Emily Thorpe (Jr., Sycamore, Ohio/Sycamore). Eckles struck again in the 86th minute when Sarah Lanham (So., Middletown, Ohio/Middletown) and Jennifer Miller (So., Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) assisted in the goal that tied the game at two.
As the Buckeyes headed into overtime for the third time this season, Miller wasted no time in feeding Eckles the ball for Eckles' third goal and the gamewinner at the 91:52 mark.
Ohio State will take on the Washington Huskies at noon Sunday in the final game of the tournament.
