Blogging the Buckeyes: Colleen Brady Part II

Go Buckeyes!
Go Buckeyes!

Go Buckeyes!

This weekend was a huge success for our team, and I think it is fair to say that it may have gone even better than anyone expected.
We kicked off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night against San Diego, who is ranked 14th right now. The weather was perfect and there was a ton of energy circulating both teams. We were happy to see a large crowd in the stands, with a ton of Buckeye fans in their scarlet and grey. It was great to have so many family members and friends out here to help support us.
The intensity of the game was high from the moment the whistle blew and each team was really fighting. In the 40th minute, Taylor Moront (who is also my roommate for this trip, I'm proud to say) scored our first goal off of a deflection after heading it into the goal keeper on a cross from Genna Brand. Tay had only been in the game for about 30 seconds, so she immediately came in and made an impact on the game. We went into halftime with a 1-0 lead, and with a lot of enthusiasm. 16 minutes into the second half, Tiffany Cameron, who is one of our nine crazy freshmen, scored a goal off of an assist from Caitlyn Martin. She just slipped it right past the goalkeeper, making it look easy. With sixteen minutes left in the game, Genna scored from the top corner of the eighteen, and put the ball right in the upper 90. It couldn't have been more perfect. We went on to win the game 3-0, which was an amazing feeling, and put us in the right mind set and in a good place to take on USC on Sunday.
On Saturday morning we got up and went to eat some breakfast and watch the football game at Moondoggies, a bar/restaurant down here. They were hosting the Buckeye Alumni Club for the game, and there were a ton of people there supporting the Buckeyes as they took on Navy. It made me realize how big Buckeye Nation was. There are OSU fans all over the country! Our families were there rooting on the team with us, and it was good to have some time to spend with them. At halftime we got announced, which was really cool, and it was nice to be able to say that we had won our first game out here. It was a fun atmosphere and experience. I think most would agree that the football game was a little more exciting than it should have been, but at least they came out with a win, and can focus on beating USC next weekend!
On Saturday afternoon some of us went running, and some took some time to stretch out their muscles in the pool. Then we took a trip to Jamba Juice before heading out to dinner with our families for the night.
Once Sunday came I was confident that our team was ready to play USC, and I had no doubt in my mind that we had the ability to beat them. It was a beautiful day. There were no clouds in the sky, the sun was out, and it wasn't too hot.
The first half of the game was a battle. Both teams had a great work rate, and a lot of enthusiasm. We went into half time tied at 0-0. We were having a lot of fun playing such a tough opponent. In the second half with a little over ten minutes left, Lauren Granberg, another freshman who we refer to as LO, got tackled by the goalkeeper in the box which resulted in a PK, and their keeper getting thrown out with a red card. Cassie Dickerson, my fellow center back and one of our captains, stepped up to take the kick, and put it in the back of the net for us. We stayed strong, and even though it got close at the end, we managed to come out with the win. It was such a great feeling to get two wins in one weekend! We voted Ashley Bowyer as our player of the game, because she held down the midfield for us, and also all of our players on the bench because they had so much energy and did not stop cheering the whole game. I would like to shout out to all the defenders in the back and our keeper Taz for getting two shutouts this weekend, and for getting three goals! We're counting Taylor and Genna's goals as goals for the defenders :)
We left the field feeling good about the way we played and really happy with our results from the weekend, which made our party on the beach after the game a lot of fun! Mr. and Mrs. Robertson had some mexican food catered for us on the beach after our game. There was a ton of great food for all of the players and their families. We had a blast playing in the ocean, and had some intense games of football and volleyball going down. It was a really fun day.
On Monday morning we are heading out to Las Vegas to take on UNLV on Wednesday night to end our trip here out west.
