Sept. 2, 1999
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State Buckeyes got their first road trip of the season started on the right foot, defeating the Syracuse Orangewomen 2-1 at Syracuse, N.Y. The win improves OSU's record to 2-0-0 while Syracuse drops to 0-2-0.
The hero of the match for Ohio State was Lindsay Eckles (Fr., Hilliard, Ohio). She gave the Buckeyes a 1-0 lead at the 50-minute mark with an unassisted goal. A mere four minutes later, she added another, this time on a pass from Melanie Vierling (So., Cincinnati, Ohio). Eckles now has a team-high three goals this season.
Syracuse cut the OSU lead in half with a goal at the 59-minute mark, but that was all OSU goalkeeper Amber Barnes (Jr., Fairfield, Ohio) would allow. Barnes made five saves in picking up her 22nd career victory.
Ohio State completes its two-match road trip Fri., Sept. 3, against Colgate at 7 p.m. The Buckeyes' next home match is Tue., Sept. 7, at 5 p.m. against Ohio University at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
