%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio-- The Ohio State women's soccer team opened its 2001 campaign with a 5-2 victory over the visiting Raiders of Wright State Friday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The Buckeyes, 1-0-0 overall, had three players net goals with both Lindsay Eckles (Jr., Hilliard, Ohio/Hillard Davidson) and Lisa Grubb (Fr., Portage, Mich./Portage Central) notching two apiece. WSU took the early lead when Kristin Blackwell broke through the OSU defense and challenged goalkeeper Anna Mitchell (So., Canton, Ohio/Jackson) at the 18-yard box. Mitchell slid to her right in an attempt to block the shot but Blackwell pushed the ball to her left past Mitchell and shot the ball into the open net for the 1-0 lead at the 5 minute mark.%^$

OSU answered back 18 minutes later when Eckles connected on a diving header on a cross from Emily Thorpe (Sr., Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) sending the ball to the back of the net to tie the match at one. Eckles was not through as she added her second goal of the match at 31:17. Standing to the goalkeeper's left, Eckles collected a crossing pass from Jackie Shirer (So., Medina, Ohio/South Alabama) and placed the ball to the lower left portion of the net to give OSU the 2-1 lead heading into the half.%^$

Grubb dribbled through traffic and controlled the ball around two defenders before placing her shot to the lower left corner of the net.%^$

Grubb's second tally came five minutes later on a chipped pass from Liz Mumley (Fr., Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge). Mumley lifted her pass from the top of the 18-yard box to a waiting Grubb who trapped the ball to her feet and again placed her shot past the goalkeeper to the lower left to give OSU a 4-1 lead.%^$

The Buckeyes' scoring ended in the 71st minute when Mumley recorded her second assist of the match after having one of her own shots brushed aside by the goalkeeper. Shelly Besson (Jr., Kettering, Ohio/The Miami Valley School) collected the rebound and shot the ball into the net for the 5-1 lead. WSU's Kim Chianese scored in the 76th minute but the scoring ended there to give the Buckeyes a 5-2 win.%^$

Mitchell totaled one save in the first half while halftime substitute Jen Heaney (Fr., Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) recorded three. Both goalkeepers allowed one goal.%^$
