COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s soccer team earned a 1-0 win over Miami (Fla.) in an exhibition Friday evening at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
The Buckeyes took the early lead in the 14th minute when Nichelle Prince put the Buckeyes on the board. Megan Fuller played a corner to the far post which was headed back to the center of the box by Kristen Niederhaus where Prince was able to finish from six yards out.
A couple more notes from Friday’s exhibition:
- Lindsay Agnew provided another solid chance for the Buckeyes late in the first half when she made a long run down the left side, cut back in and forced Miami goalkeeper Emily Lillard to make a diving save on a shot from 20 yards out.
- Niederhaus and Agnew connected on a good opportunity early in the second half. Agnew received a cross from Prince with her back to goal at the top of the box, turned and delivered a through ball to Niederhaus who took two dribbles and fired a left-footed shot just wide right from 10 yards.
- Several newcomers saw their first time on the field for the Buckeyes including Nicole Miyashiro, Nichelle Prince, Kayla Varner, Alexis Degler, Bridget Skinner, Lindsay Agnew, Taylor Schissler and Morgan Wolcott (who redshirted last year with a knee injury).
Ohio State opens the regular season at 7 p.m. Aug. 23 against Morehead State at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
