COLUMBUS, Ohio The Big Ten Conference women's soccer coaches have picked the Ohio State Buckeyes as the No. 4 team in the conference according to the preseason poll released by the Big Ten today. Penn State was selected by the 11 conference coaches as the team to beat with Illinois and Purdue ranked No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.
Ohio State, with nine seniors and juniors on hand for leadership and a freshmen class judged No. 1 in the Big Ten and No. 13 nationally by SoccerBuzz.com, will host all three teams that are ranked ahead of it. Illinois comes to town Fri., Sept. 28 for a 7:30 p.m. match at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Purdue and Penn State close out the Buckeyes' home season. The Buckeyes and the Boilermakers will meet in a 1 p.m. match Sunday, Oct. 28, while the regular-season ending Penn State contest is set for Friday, Nov. 2.
Rounding out the coaches’ poll after Ohio State are Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Northwestern, Minnesota and Iowa. All 11 teams open the season Aug. 31, with Ohio State hosting Butler at noon in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The game will be the first of six-straight home contests for Ohio State.
