COLUMBUS, Ohio – Seniors Nikki Walts and Morgan Wolcott have been named captains of the 2017 Ohio State women’s soccer team, head coach Lori Walker-Hock announced Tuesday. In addition, Walker-Hock announced sophomore Meghan Kammerdeiner will serve as assistant captain of the Buckeyes.
Walts, who served as an assistant captain as a junior last year, has started 63 career matches, scoring 11 goals and dishing out 13 assists. The Scottsdale, Ariz., native was a second team All-Big Ten pick in 2016 and a member of the Big Ten All-Freshman team in 2014. Walts, a midfielder who has played the full match 43 times in her first three seasons, is a three-time OSU Scholar-Athlete and two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.
Wolcott, now entering her third season as a team captain, has started 54 career matches, including all 21 a season ago. The Milford, Ohio, native was a second team All-Big Ten selection in 2016 after scoring three goals and tallying an assist. For her career, Wolcott has totaled six goals and three assists. Wolcott is a four time Academic All-Big Ten pick and a four-time OSU Scholar-Athlete.
A native of South Riding, Va., Kammerdeiner appeared in 18 matches, making two starts, as a freshman last season. Kammerdeiner, an OSU Scholar-Athlete, scored her first-career goal in the Buckeyes’ opener against Kent State and played a season-high 50 minutes against the Golden Flashes and at West Virginia.
