Buckeyes Hit the Field for First Training Session of 2014

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s soccer team opened its 2014 campaign with its first team training session Wednesday afternoon at the upper practice fields across the street from Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

The Buckeyes, under 18th-year head coach Lori Walker, return eight starters and 16 letterwinners off a 2013 team that finished 10-7-3 and advanced to the program’s fifth-consecutive NCAA tournament.Captain Ellyn Gruber and leading goal-scorer Nichelle Prince are back and will help welcome a group of nine newcomers. The Ohio State roster will be young but talented with four seniors, four juniors, eight sophomores and 11 freshmen.

Ohio State, who will be without Prince and Lindsay Agnew for much of the preseason as the two sophomores represent Canada at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, will play an exhibition at Wake Forest at 6 p.m. Aug. 16 before opening up the 2014 season against nationally-ranked foes Duke at 5 p.m. Aug. 22 and North Carolina at 2 p.m. Aug. 24 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
