COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s soccer team has hired Nick Flohre as assistant coach, head coach Lori Walker announced Tuesday. Flohre replaces Glen Tourville, who served on Walker’s staff for the last six seasons.

“Nick brings great energy, enthusiasm, and knowledge of Big Ten women’s soccer to our coaching staff,” Walker said. He was instrumental in moving Iowa’s team forward to one of their most successful seasons in the last decade including two wins against Penn State last year. As a former competitor, he has scouted and recruited against Ohio State in an effort to exploit our weaknesses and I welcome his unique perspective of our program. Nick was born a Buckeye and there is no greater salesman than someone who has grown up as part of Buckeye Nation. I am thrilled Nick is back home.”

Flohre, a native of Dayton, Ohio, comes to Columbus from Iowa, where he spent two years as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. In Flohre’s two seasons in Iowa City, the Hawkeyes went 27-13-4, including a school-record 15 victories, in 2013. Iowa advanced to the Big Ten Tournament championship in 2013 while tallying the first two postseason wins in program history along with the first NCAA Tournament appearance in the history of Iowa women’s soccer.

“I am so excited to join The Ohio State University women's soccer staff,” Flohre said. “It is an honor to be provided the opportunity to work at an institution with such an incredible history of tradition and excellence. As an Ohio native, I understand how proud Ohioans are of the Buckeyes’ success and how well this institution represents the state. Becoming part of this tradition has given me and my family an even greater sense of pride.”

Flohre, who instructed at the EXACT Soccer ID Camp at the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 2012, was the girl’s assistant director of Ohio Elite Soccer Academy from 2008-12. In that time, he helped the U-13 Ohio Elite team to the 2012 U.S. Club National Cup finals and the U-12 team to the 2009 OSYSA State Cup championship.

A 2003 graduate of the University of Indianapolis where he competed on the men’s soccer team, Flohre served as an assistant on the Wesleyan University men’s team in from 2006-07 and the Tulane women’s team in 2004-05. Flohre has a USSF ‘B’ coaching license.

“The chance to work with Coach Walker and the Buckeyes wasn't one I could pass on,” Flohre added. “Lori has built the Ohio State program into one of the best in the country and I’m eager to help take the program to new heights. Combine Ohio State’s world-renowned academic reputation, its tradition of winning championships and its incredible people and the sky is the limit for this program.”
