COLUMBUS, Ohio – Three former Buckeyes have been thriving in their respective professional leagues overseas. Tiffany Cameron (2009-12), Lara Dickenmann (2004-07) and Danica Wu (2010-13) all have accomplished significant individual and team feats in the last year.
Cameron, from Mississauga, Ontario, signed earlier this month with Borussia Monchengladbach, a team recently promoted to Frauen Bundesliga, the German first division. The forward, who has spent time with NWSL teams in Seattle and Kansas City, along with Hoffenheim in the Germany first division and Apollon Limassol in Cyprus, won the Ligat Al Women championship with Ironi Ramat HaSharon in May. Cameron scored 35 goals across all competitions.
Dickenmann, a Swiss national team member, just finished her first season for VFL Wolfsburg after seven seasons with Olympique Lyonnais in France. The midfielder appeared in 34 matches, making 32 starts across all competitions for the team that finished second in Frauen Bundesliga. Dickenmann scored nine goals (five in Frauen Bundesliga, three in DFB Pokal and one in Champions League) as Wolfsburg won the DFB Pokal with a 2-1 victory over SC Sand in May. Dickenmann helped Wolfsburg to a runner-up finish in the UEFA Women’s Champions League in May as her former team Olympique Lyonnais outlasted the German club, 4-3 on penalty kicks, after playing to a 1-1 draw through 120 minutes.
A third former Buckeye, Danica Wu, spent last season as a key member of MSV Duisburg. The Edmonton, Alberta, native scored a goal while starting 21 matches. MSV Duisburg, a club founded in 2014, finished the season with a 22-0-0 record, the first perfect season in 2. Bundesliga history, after a 3-1 victory over Herford in May.
