COLUMBUS, Ohio Five members of the Ohio State women’s soccer team will be participating in various career-building and community service initiatives this summer before the Buckeyes begin the 2016 campaign in August. From internships to volunteer opportunities, the Buckeyes will be gaining experience that will enhance their lives long after their time on the pitch.

Some more info on the Buckeyes doing big things in the offseason:

Lindsay Agnew

Name of organization: Soles4Souls, a nonprofit global social enterprise that works toward fighting poverty through distributing shoes and clothing.

Your personal role: Volunteer. I will be going to Jamaica in May to help size and distribute shoes to people in less fortunate communities.

Why did you choose this trip? The athletic department chose 12 student athletes to go on the trip. I have always wanted to go on an international service trip so I was beyond excited when I was selected to participate.

What do you expect out of this experience? I hope to make a difference in at least one person’s life. I expect to learn a lot from the people in Jamaica and to be inspired by them. I hope to have fun with the kids and share my love of soccer with them. I also hope to become closer with the other student athletes on the trip.

How will this experience help you for future career paths? My major is sustainability and this trip will help me experience the community and international development side of social sustainability. My dream job would be to work for a corporation that has a business model where a certain amount of the profits go toward community or international development. For example, I would love to work for a solar company that also donates and installs solar panels for schools and houses in developing nations. This trip will help me to explore what an international nonprofit organization does and to grow as a person.

Nicole Miyashiro

Name of organization: Cardinal Health, a Fortune 500 health care services company that specializes in the distribution of pharmaceuticals and medical products while improving cost effectiveness.

Your personal role: Generics Finance Intern

Why did you choose this internship? Cardinal Health has an incredible internship program. Not only are they focused on teaching me about the business, but they are also focused on my leadership development. In addition, I will be mentored by a manager that has been in the business for a long time and can guide me throughout the internship process. After meeting with several employees, I have learned that they genuinely want to help me succeed. I also look forward to being a part of intern-run committees and taking part in community service among the Columbus area.

What do you expect out of this experience? I hope to gain not only more financial and business knowledge, but also diligence to make a difference in the health care industry. It is rewarding to know that my work could potentially help save lives.

How will this experience help you for future career paths? I believe Cardinal Health will prepare me for any career path from here on out. They offer all the necessary resources for me to be successful. It also will give me a taste of what it is like to work from nine to five, which will take some getting used to.

Jillian McVicker

Name of organization: Bucks Go Pro. The goal of the program is to help student-athletes find meaningful work experiences through jobs and internships, be better prepared for career opportunities and educate them about the process of building a career during summer semester.

Your personal role: Video Services intern

Why did you choose this internship? I believe it’s a wonderful opportunity that Ohio State gives its student-athletes, so I wanted to take advantage of it. Since I will be training at Ohio State throughout the summer, my goal was to have a meaningful experience and build my knowledge for my last internship opportunity before graduating in December.

What do you expect out of this experience? My expectation is to expand my horizons beyond what is expected of me in my desired field by honing my video-editing and production skills. I hope to be trained on a variety of different software, be involved with the creation of promotional videos for teams competing in the fall, as well as aiding in the preparation of headshots and potentially helping with team posters.

How will this experience help you for future career paths? My career goal is to be a sportscaster/commentator/analyst for a national news organization. I enjoy video production and broadcasting, so I would love to be involved with anything including the creation of a sports show. I have found a passion for reporting and interviewing players and coaches from a variety of sports. My dream is to do this professionally, and this experience will help me build my network and my skill set.

Bridget Skinner

Name of organization: Bucks Go Pro

Your personal role: Development intern

Why did you choose this internship? I chose this internship because I heard from past interns that it was an incredible experience in which they learned a lot from their bosses and peers and got to meet a lot of new people.

What do you expect out of this experience? I expect to be challenged every day to think outside the box. I also expect to have a lot of support from the Buck Go Pro staff to help prepare me for the future.

How will this experience help you for future career paths? This experience will help me learn more about what I am interested in for my future career paths. Right now I am not exactly sure what I want to do after college, but I believe doing hands-on works with Bucks Go Pro will help give me a better idea of what I want to do.

Nikki Walts

Name of organization: Bucks Go Pro

Your personal role: I will be interning at the Schottenstein Center

Why did you choose this internship? I wanted to be challenged, educated and gain a lot of experience this summer and I believed choosing an internship through The Ohio State Athletic department would do this for me. I heard great things about this internship program and how it really influenced the student-athletes who went though it and I wanted to be a part of it.

What do you expect out of this experience? To network with experienced Ohio State employees to understand what it takes to run an event and to gain valuable work experience. I am hoping to strengthen my weaknesses and broaden skills.

How will this experience help you for future career paths?  I am hoping this will help guide me in a direction of what I want to do for a future career.
