COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s soccer team concluded its spring schedule with a 6-1 record, including a 6-0 ledger against NCAA opponents, after sweeping games against West Virginia and Pittsburgh April 13.
The Buckeyes opened the spring schedule Feb. 16 in Columbus against Ohio and Cleveland State. Ohio State received goals from Michela Paradiso and Ellyn Gruber in a 2-0 victory over the Bobcats before Kristen Niederhaus notched a penalty-kick goal and Gruber nabbed her second tally of the day in a 2-1 win over the Vikings. For the day, Ohio State outshot their opponents 15-7 while both goalkeepers, Jillian McVicker and Rachel Middleman, played 45 minutes each.
Ohio State next played March 3 in a 90-minute game against Kent State in Columbus. The Buckeyes won, 1-0, on a goal by Danica Wu. Ohio State then concluded its home spring schedule with a 1-0 win over Louisville March 13. Caroline Murray tallied the game-winner in the 40th minute off an assist from Niederhaus.
After a 4-0 loss to the Western New York Flash of the NWSL March 30 in Elma, N.Y., the Buckeyes concluded the season with a 1-0 win over West Virginia and a 2-0 victory at Pittsburgh April 13. Niederhaus scored the game-winner against the Mountaineers off assists from Gruber and Paradiso and Wu and Niederhaus each notched a goal in the shutout victory over the Panthers.
For the spring, Ohio State outscored its NCAA opponents 9-1.
Ohio State opens its 2013 slate against Morehead State at 7 p.m. Aug. 23 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
