COLUMBUS, Ohio – Nikki Walts, a rising senior on the Ohio State women’s soccer team, has recently been elected by her peers as president of the Ohio State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Walts is the eighth women’s soccer Buckeye to be named president of the organization since 2004.
“I am honored to have been selected as the executive board chair for The Ohio State University's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for the 2017-18 school year,” Walts said. “Being a part of the committee was already an amazing experience itself, but I am eager to see where this position will take me and what I will be able to do for SAAC and the student-athlete community. I am excited to work with my fellow student-athletes on continuing to grow this program and being a representative of our school at Big Ten and Division I SAAC meetings and a student-athlete representative at athletic council group meetings.”
The SAAC, which was developed in 1993, is recognized by The Ohio State University as an official student organization. Within the Committee, each team has at least one representative who serves as a liaison between the student-athlete population, the Department of Athletics, SASSO and the Ohio State community.
“Our coaches really encourage us to strive for excellence and constantly remind us that we are strong women who can make a difference in our future careers,” Walts added. “I think this feature of our program can be evidenced by the eight women soccer players who have held this position before me. I am excited to take on this role and follow in my teammates’ shoes.”
Walts, a native of Scottsdale, Ariz., has started all 63 matches in her Buckeye career, tallying 11 goals and 13 assists. The midfielder and 2016 assistant team captain was named second team All-Big Ten in 2016 and to the Big Ten All-Freshman team in 2014. Walts, a sport industry major, is a three-time OSU Scholar-Athlete and a two-time Academic All-Big Ten pick.
